Sheep Shearing???

Yes it’s true! I feel like I am finally initiated into England after visiting a farm while they were sheep shearing πŸ™‚

Sheila took me out to a farm where she had gone along to the lambing a few weeks back (she gets all over the place right!) which was such a wonderful farm! It was in a beautiful part of the countryside (just along the road from Princess Kathryn’s parents house!!!) Β with a few beautiful farm houses. Needless to say…IT WAS LOUD! I didn’t realize how noisy sheep would be while they’re waiting to be sheared. I also realized just how stupid sheep are. At first I thought “oh, it’s so mean to cram them all in a tiny pen together while they wait to get sheared”…then I started looking at all the ones who were in larger pens…still crammed together but now it was by choice. They are perfectly happy to just all climb into the back of a trailer that is black inside and all closed up just because “well everybody else is doing it”. They are perfectly content just to do whatever you make them do and go wherever you make them go…pretty dumb. But they’re cute πŸ™‚

I got to go help herd up the sheep which was quite fun. First off, I got to ride in an old Defender which was pretty awesome. A bit closer to

a beater than any other car I have ridden in while in this country so I was feeling a bit more at home πŸ˜‰ When we got to the field all the babies were going crazy wanting their mommies back and all the mommies were going crazy wanting to be back with their babies so it was just madness out there. Again, SO NOISY!

We got to have some tea and coffee with the farmers and have a good chat with them. It’s cool talking to a group of people that I don’t usually get to interact with much. I think I would like to work on a farm for a few weeks someday, but it is really such laborious work that I don’t think I would last much longer than a few weeks. But it still looks like fun!
Beautiful sunny day, enjoyed being out in the country and loved spending the day with Sheila too πŸ™‚

That was so enjoyable and brought back memories. We had a couple of sheep when we were on the small farm and they truly are dumb. We also raised goats who are as smart as sheep are dumb and so fun to have around. Those were fun days, lots of work, but lots of payoff also. It is wonderful being with nature, so close to God. In Salem, we have a sheep to shawl every year. It is held at a former wool factory which is now a museum. They shear the sheep, clean it, spin it into yarn and then weave it. It is so wonderful you are having such wonderful adventures. We think of the two of you often and appreciate that you keep in touch. We love you a lot. Grandma and Grandpa
