Tending to the horses at Teen Ranch

The main building of Teen Ranch

This boxing day was unbelievably beautiful! Stunning sun and no rain at all! Linda and I decided to celebrate it by going for a 10 mile run πŸ˜‰ I love being in such an active family! The run was absolutely amazing. Felt great to get a good stretch of our legs and to see the coast around Dundee.

That evening we went along to our friends house who’s wife is from Mexico so it was sure to be an amazing meal. And we weren’t disappointed! Good food, good chat, and lots of laughs!

The next few days were relatively chilled out. In the mornings we were put in charge of the horses at Teen Ranch;

Movin Hay!

a kids camp that has about 20 horses and the staff get to enjoy a few days off during Christmas if other families are willing to pitch in a bit.Β David works on the ranch so he was more than happy to sign us up! πŸ˜‰ So we got to move the horses around a bit, scoop up their poo, and give them some food. It’s good getting out in the country for a bit and I love being around horses so that was a real treat πŸ™‚ Walks in the afternoon and chilled out evenings watching films kept me busy. I am definitely feeling rested this holiday πŸ™‚

Mom's Christmas morning Breakfast!

Mom’s Christmas morning Breakfast!

So this is my second christmas with Andy’s family so I was able to get really excited about it this year. Looking forward to our christmas day walk and dinner at Granny and Grandad Bruce’s πŸ™‚

I have found this Christmas so difficult being away from my family and not being able to celebrate with my little brother and sister but the Andy and his family has been so loving and caring with welcoming me in and trying by finding snow for me and helping to keep a few of my Silveira-based traditions alive. Things like my moms Christmas morning breakfast and opening one present on Christmas Eve!

Christmas day started with moms Christmas morning casserole which is a massive hit with the Hayes boys! Lots of meat, eggs cheese, and bread. Can’t go wrong. Had some presents which was wonderful. Got some really thoughtful presses from my brothers-in-law and Andy’s parents, even Sam got a present! A little light up bone for his collar πŸ™‚

We headed to Edinburgh and stopped for a rainy christmassy walk around a Loch then headed to Granny and Grandad’s! Granny pulled out all the stops as usual with every Christmas dish you could want along with two puddings! A Christmas pudding with Custard and a Trifle. I love Christmas dinner granny Hayes’ ❀

Heading to the mountains to find snow!!!

WINDY WINDY WINDY!

WINDY WINDY WINDY!

So unfortunately Scotland doesn’t get as much snow as Alaska and the Hayes family tries to always find me some snow during the holidays. So we headed to the hills! We had to drive a few hours and then hike for 30 minutes to find it but when we found it we were amazed! It was so beautiful and perfect for snow balls πŸ™‚ It was very windy though! We went up to Glen Dol, made it through the forest and into the glen and almost got blown off our feet! I could hardly believe how windy it was! But the snow before and after was beautiful! I have the best in-laws who try to make me feel as at home as possible πŸ™‚

After that we headed home for our Christmas-eve present and mulled wine πŸ™‚

Christmas holidays!!!

So I am currently sitting next to the fire with a cup of tea and a dog next to me. This is the start of the Christmas holidays in Dundee. Today it snowed a wee bit which was fun even if it only lasted 5 minutes and turned to mush right away :s

I was blessed with about two weeks off work this year!!! From the 22-2nd. I am really looking forward to it. Looking forward to hill walking, skiing, baths, runs with the in-laws, home cooking, and being taken care of by a mom πŸ™‚ I’m missing my family a lot more this year than ever before so there have been lots of skypes and I’m looking forward to opening their presents which is basically love wrapped up in a box! Also Andy’s family really does their very best at making me feel at home and the ask me all sorts of questions about Alaska and my family. Plus they let me talk and talk and talk (aka serious bragging) about my brother and sister to no end πŸ˜‰ so with them making me feel so loved it doesn’t really make it any easier but it does help if that makes sense πŸ™‚

So far this holiday I have slept til 11, gone for a run, done absolutely nothing with my whole day and went to a Christmas carol service which was followed by tea and mince pies. Gonna be a good holiday season I think πŸ™‚

Yet another life change… :)

I love my burlap coffee sacks from Paper Cup <3

I love my burlap coffee sacks from Paper Cup ❀

So it seems like there just never ceases to be changes in my life. Β Very good and exciting changes without a doubt! But changes nonetheless. These last few weeks it was made apparent to me that I was not getting enough hours at Paper Cup and that wasn’t going to change like was predicted. So I decided I had to look for another job. I handed out about 8 CVs to shops all over Glasgow but there was one in particular that I really wanted. A shop called Kember & Jones that a few of my friends already work at and I knew for a fact that one friend had just handed in her two week notice the day before. So I swept right in there! I think I had a step up on the competition since I already had a few friends there who could vouch for me πŸ˜‰

The day I handed my CV in I got a call from the manager asking me to come in for a brief interview the next morning. So this morning I popped in and walked out with a job! Not even a trial shift! But the amazement doesn’t stop there. I had mentioned to my boss that I was going to start looking for other work and he understood but when I went into work today to let him know I had been offered a job he said I could leave straight away no problem!!! I’m very sad to be leaving Paper Cup and I still vouch for it being the best coffee in Glasgow hands down. So that will definitely be my hangout for sure. But for now, I have the weekend to sit in amazement at how much God has blessed me with jobs and then I start working on Tuesday!!! WHOOP WHOOP! So excited. It’s an incredible coffee shop aswel. If you live in Glasgow you have to pop in!

….still in awe…

So much has happened, so much has changed!

Trafalgars Square with two of our favorite people <3

Trafalgars Square with two of our favorite people ❀

So there has been a SEVERE lack of posting in the last few months. Mainly just because so much has been happening!!! So I’m gonna give you a VERY brief rundown of the last 3 months. New Day kind of set off the madness for the end of summer. Right after that we attended the wedding and the following weekend got a great visit from Andy’s. He only stayed for the weekend for us to run 15 kilometres one day and a half marathon the next! (he’s a crazy runner man in case you didn’t know, lol). So good exhausting visit, very sunny happy weekend. The next week our friend Ben arrived with our god-daughter Coralie! She was just 11 months old and as cute as ever! She was just learning how to walk around which quickly turned to running within days! We went all around London, a trip to Oxford, and a few other day trips into the country πŸ™‚ It was such a wonderful visit, I cannot think of any ways it could have been better. So many good happy memories and oh my goodness, is that girl cute!

Heading up North!

Heading up North!

So the following week we spend packing up the flat 😦 Quickly followed by my catching the stomach flu 😦 😦 Quickly followed by Andy catching the stomach flu 😦 😦 😦 We did manage to squeeze in a lovely going away party and got dinner with so many people in the last few days in Reading ❀

So Andy’s dad made the journey back down to Reading to pack all of our things into his car and we headed North! You could just feel when we were back in Scotland ❀ I’ve never seen Andy so excited to arrive anywhere than when we rolled into Glasgow at 7am after driving all night. We got the keys to our flat and moved into Berkeley Street! Our new home πŸ™‚

Straight after moving our things into our flat we got on the train and headed to Dundee to visit Andy’s family for a few days. It was so good to see them after not properly seeing them since Christmas last year. Then back to Glasgow to sort out our flat and start job hunting. I passed out my CV to loads and loads of different places on Friday and by Wednesday I had a job! Working at the best coffee shop in Glasgow called Paper Cup. They roast their coffee right in the shop and they make some of the best food I have ever had. It is such a chilled out friendly place, I can honestly say I love going into work. Along with that I’ve taken a wee job minding a 2 year old named Sophie on Thursdays so that should keep me busy enough πŸ˜‰

after the half-marathon run!

after the half-marathon run!

On the 6th of October Andy’s parents came through to Glasgow to run with Andy and me in the Great Scottish Run Half-Marathon! I had never done a race or anything quite like that before and I loved it! I ran with Linda for most of it and we had such a great time. Getting excited over jelly babies, and laughing at the funny things people had written on their shirts. Linda is SUCH a good running partner. Really pushed me when I needed it but didn’t leave me in the dust πŸ˜‰ I had quite a lot of energy left at the end so I sprinted the last mile and made it across the finish line in under 2 hours! So after that run I’ve decided to sign up for the Edinburgh Marathon in May. I figure why not? So I’m very excited for that. Which means for my birthday I’ll be getting running shoes and marathon training guides πŸ˜‰ Should be good fun.

But the next adventure is next weekend when Andy and I will take part in Survival of the Fittest 10K in Edinburgh. Put on by Mens Health it has a different obstacle every kilometer. Sounds like good fun! It is similar to Tough Mudder except we won’t get electrocuted πŸ˜‰ I think we will be exhausted, wet and muddy by the end which is the sign of a good fun race πŸ™‚

Looking forward to that and also looking forward to Christmas coming as it’s getting colder and the leaves are all turning colors πŸ™‚

A New Day and the start of a marriage :)

Worship time!

Worship time!

New Day!!!!!

New Day!!!!!

So last week I made my way up towards Norwich with 20 Β teenagers from my church. We attended a massive Christian Festival with 6,000 other teenagers. There were amazing speakers from all over the country talking on every different topic relevant to a teenagers life. It was incredible watching the young people worship God 4 times a day with such passion and get so much out of the seminars. We also drank milkshakes, had sour string eating competitions, and ate far too much cake πŸ˜‰

For myself, it might have been one of the most changing weeks for me spiritually. I was challenged in so many ways but particularly when I realized that I am still struggling with a fear that God will lead me on a journey or take me somewhere challenging and start something amazing in me (with Andy) and then leave it up to us to finish it off. I realized over the week that saying that is even a fear is completely absurd. God finishes what He starts! That fear does not even exist and it never will! In the Bible it says “I am sure of this, thatΒ He who started a good workΒ in youΒ will carry it on to completionΒ until the day of Christ Jesus.” {Philippians 1:6}. This verse stuck in my mind last week and I it comforted me to know that God is a caring God who wants to finish what He starts. He doesn’t just play around with our lives for the fun of it, He is active and relevant in our daily lives. So I found it quite comforting.

Reading Family Church gang ready to dance the night away πŸ™‚

I came back from New Day a day early so that I could hop in a car 12 hours after arriving home (mostly spent sleeping) and drive up to a wedding right near Nottingham. It was a beautiful wedding! I have never been to an English wedding and I will tell you one thing…they are FANCY! Apparently this one was actually quite casual compared to most of them! WHAAAT!? Growing up in Alaska where the more casual your wedding the better/cooler it becomes (barn/mountain top weddings anybody? 4-wheeler as the getaway car please!). So it opened my eyes up to another part of the English culture. I absolutely loved it! So beautiful, amazing food, lots of dancing and I cannot say how excited I am to know Mr. and Mrs. Hallett as a married couple!

Already married ;)

Already married πŸ˜‰

So it was all very exciting…until Andy got the stomach flu the night of the wedding…and spent all night throwing up in the hotel room (good thing it was just the two of us!). Poor guy, the drive home the next day was not an enjoyable one unfortunately. But we got him home, gave him some soup and nursed him back to health. All better now πŸ˜€

So quite an eventful/exhausting/wonderful week/weekend (how many /// can I possibly put into one post….hmmmmm). Now to get prepped for Ben and Coralie to come visit us on Wednesday!!!

As of today Andy and I have been officially married for two years! yay! it feels like it hasn’t even been a year, time really flies. At the same time it seems like we’ve been married for our entire lives. I cannot imagine not being married to my best friend. So to celebrate this event Andy decided to take me into London for a bit of sightseeing, dinner, and to go to the theatre to see Phantom of the Opera! We started out at Trafalgar square to sit in the sun and take a few photos.

We headed through Hyde park to the place where they keep the military horses. Got to see some guards marching around with swords!

We got a few takeaways and went back to Trafalgar Square to have dinner sitting in the sun on the steps of the gallery, what a beautiful evening!

We got changed into fancier clothes and headed off to Her majesty’s theatre for phantom of the opera!!! It was a beautiful building with so much history. I loved watching Phantom of the Opera so much!!! It was a childhood dream that I never really thought would come true πŸ™‚ Andy was such a good date too, he even brought cut up fruit and mixed it with vanilla yogurt for an intermission snack ❀

It was a late night but an absolutely perfect day. I love my man, I’m so blessed to have him in my life especially when I’m so young ❀ ❀ ❀

Off for a day at the Henley Royal Regatta!

The beautiful Themes :)

The beautiful Themes πŸ™‚

Henley Royal Rigatta!

Henley Royal Rigatta!

So Andy decided I needed some educating in English Pastimes, one of which would be having a picnic and drinking Pimms (a fruity drink that is VERY popular in the UK during the summer months) in the sun during the summer. So where else is prime to do this? Well at the Royal Regatta of course! The Royal Regatta is a world famous rowing race started in 1839 that is a 5 day long affair that rowers from all over the world travel to participate. Each day of the races, more rowers are knocked off the bracket until only a few rowing teams are left for the final day. It is a very fancy event with everybody dressing up and wearing big hats! We brought a little picnic and settled down to watch the fun. I have never been to a rowing race

SO many people watching the races!

SO many people watching the races!

before so it was quite exciting. We sat near the finish line so we were able to see which teams were head to head and which teams were winning my a longshot. Lots of yelling and cheering but the best part was definitely the weather πŸ™‚ SUN SUN SUN SUN SUN! We through enjoyed every drop of it. Neither of us got burnt but we definately were able to top up our tan. I am so glad the British summer has finally showed it’s face around here. Loved the picnic, loved watching the races, loved the sun. Hanging out with Andy for an entire day just chilling out talking was wonderful icing on the cake. Because there is a lot of down time it leaves for lots of chatting time which I throughly enjoyed.

Pimms, fruit and sunshine, feeling English yet?

After our day of watching the rowing I felt like I had participated in a truly English summer tradition. Another box ticked πŸ˜‰

Enjoying the sun :D
